BURGAN FIELD, KUWAIT

This is a very unique sample. It was given to me by my first student teacher! After he stayed with me for eight weeks and went back to Boston State Teachers College (now UMass Boston). The climate dramatically changed in Massachusetts, and new teachers were almost a thing of the past. He decided to go to work for a petroleum company in Texas. Naturally, he was sent to Kuwait as a well logger. When he came back, he gave me a sample from his first well. This sand was created by a drill bit. Before that instant, it was solid rock!

Roundness is the degree of smoothing due to abrasion of sedimentary particles. It is expressed as the ratio of the average radius of curvature of the edges or corners to the radius of curvature of the maximum inscribed sphere.

The sphericity of a particle is: the ratio of the surface area of a sphere (with the same volume as the given particle) to the surface area of the particle.
