MONROVIA, LIBERIA

MONROVIA BAY - Unknown Photographer

"The sand samples are really from the same beach, but the sample location is separated by about a mile, maybe more. Not particularly dramatic or noteworthy, the color and texture of each sample is about the same. [The first sample was] taken directly in front of the Cape Hotel in Monrovia. I believe this area of town is called Mamba Point. The Mampa Point Hotel is just next door. [The] sand taken from Execution Beach, southeast of Mambia Point [gets its name from] the site where thirteen ministers were tied to telephone poles and shot in April, 1980." Gary Foster NOTE: I decided not to post a direct link to this event - CFL.

GRAIN SHAPE CHARACTERISTICS

(PREPARED BY GAMMA ZETA CHAPTER , SIGMA GAMMA EPSILON, KENT STATE UNIVERSITY - AGI CHART))

Roundness is the degree of smoothing due to abrasion of sedimentary particles. It is expressed as the ratio of the average radius of curvature of the edges or corners to the radius of curvature of the maximum inscribed sphere.

The sphericity of a particle is: the ratio of the surface area of a sphere (with the same volume as the given particle) to the surface area of the particle.
