Crushed Granited, Unknown Location

CRUSHED GRANITE, UNKNOWN LOCATION

 

This sample unfortunately sat unattended for many years. I obtained it in a swap at a NSTA convention in Boston many years ago. The other samples, all in 35mm film canisters, were labeled with location, date, and longitude and latitude. This one simply said "Crushed Granite." It was constantly pushed to the back and ignored because of the lack of information. 2021 happened, and I decided it was time to take a look at Crushed Granite. It was spectacular! I was expecting something with jagged edges and sharp points. No! It obviously comes from a water source. I have no clue where, but it is very different than I expected. Welcome Crushed Granite. Happy 2021 Crushed Granite as my first sample to be documented!

Roundness is the degree of smoothing due to abrasion of sedimentary particles. It is expressed as the ratio of the average radius of curvature of the edges or corners to the radius of curvature of the maximum inscribed sphere.

The sphericity of a particle is: the ratio of the surface area of a sphere (with the same volume as the given particle) to the surface area of the particle.
