BIG BROOK, MARLBORO, NEW JERSEY

I almost made a huge mistake with this sample. It was wrapped in a Doritos package with no labels. Luckily, I opened it, and found the label "Big Brook." I did a Google search and discovered that this was a fossil site in New Jersey. My best guess is that the fossil is actually a shark tooth, but I can't swear to that. It doesn't look like any shark tooth I have ever seen. Expertsfrom the International Sand Collectors Society have contacted me, and they identified it as a Belemnite. That makes sense. Enjoy!

GRAIN SHAPE CHARACTERISTICS

(PREPARED BY GAMMA ZETA CHAPTER , SIGMA GAMMA EPSILON, KENT STATE UNIVERSITY - AGI CHART))

Roundness is the degree of smoothing due to abrasion of sedimentary particles. It is expressed as the ratio of the average radius of curvature of the edges or corners to the radius of curvature of the maximum inscribed sphere.

The sphericity of a particle is: the ratio of the surface area of a sphere (with the same volume as the given particle) to the surface area of the particle.
