POINTE AUX CHENES, MACKINAC COUNTY, MICHIGAN

 

Sample #1 was collected from old dunes north of Pointe Aux Chenes. The old dune sand is 0.7 miles northwest of Pointe Aux Chenes River bridge. Sand from the semi-stable dunes about 100 feet north of the road. Sample #2 was collected from old dunes 0.6 miles west of Pointe Aux Chenes Road from an old borrow pit about 0.1 mile from the shoreline. Patrick F. Fields

Roundness is the degree of smoothing due to abrasion of sedimentary particles. It is expressed as the ratio of the average radius of curvature of the edges or corners to the radius of curvature of the maximum inscribed sphere.

The sphericity of a particle is: the ratio of the surface area of a sphere (with the same volume as the given particle) to the surface area of the particle.
